Ranch features a variety of native brush including mesquite, guajilla, blackbrush, granhenia, guayacan, small leaf sumac, persimmon, catclaw and others. Most of these brushes are edible and fattening to almost everything. The fine combination of soils makes this a very good producer of food plants that have strong amounts of protein, minerals and vitamins. The basic grasses are sideoats grama, silver bluestem, green sprangletop, little bluestem, buffalo, mesquite, threeawn and others. Mesquite trees usually bloom and produce tons of mesquite beans each year. These beans are sweet and are relished by cattle and game. The huisache and black brush will annually produce seed pods that are filled with little black seeds and these are the main food lines for quail and other birds. The great variety of brush and grasses that biologists have identified as the best “ice cream” plants that game like and really benefit from are on this ranch.
Wildlife:
Hunting on this ranch is very good. There are good numbers of white tail deer, quail, a few turkeys and the dove hunting is excellent. The ranch has about 35 axis deer and 10 blackbuck antelope.
